Dahi Pakhala is also known as "Pakhala Bhata" in Orissa. This is mainly prepared by adding water and curd in cooked rice with few roasted spices which are called Panch Phoran.
All the spices in Panch Phoran are seeds which mainly consists of Fenugreek seeds, Nigella seeds(kalonji), Cumin seeds, Mustard seeds and Fennel seeds in equal quantities.
Panch Phoran is popularly known as "Pancha Phutana" in Odia.
The water is called 'Torani'.
Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Dahi Pakhala !!:
- 1 cup Cooked Rice
- 1.5 cup Water
- 1/2 cup Curd
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 tbsp Panch Phoran
- 1 Dry Red Chilli
- to taste Salt
- 8-10 Curry Leaves
- 1" Ginger smashed
Instructions to make to make Dahi Pakhala !!
- In a bowl, mix cooked rice, curd and water. Now add salt, smashed ginger, mix well and keep aside.


- Heat up the oil in tadka pan or small kadhai. Add panch phoran, curry leaves and dry red chilli (whole). Let it crackle. Add tadka to the prepared cooked rice mixture. Dahi Pakhala is ready to serve.



- Dahi Pakhala or Pakhala Bhata can be served immediately or chilled. Enjoy.
